REVIEW – $188 CherryPad 7-inch Android tablet

Last time we rapped about a CherryPad it was  and it was another 7-inch Android 2.1 Android tablet and it cost $188. This time around it’s going to be a 7-inch Android 2.2 (at least) tablet and it costs somewhere between $300 and $400. Mobile Magazine has just been handed these “unconfirmed” details for this brand new CherryPad, so take them with a grain of rice, but they certainly don’t seem that far-fetched. Take a peek at this lovely little lady below.

The design of the hardware seems pretty neato, we’re digging the white border. The screen has been upgraded from a low-res 800×480 resistive to a 1024×600 capacitive multi-touch display. The tablet has two cameras, one on front and one on back, both of them (apparently) VGA and 3.0 megapixels with AF lens and LED flash. Fah! Bigger cameras, goodness!

The older version had an 800-Mhz chip that’s now upgraded to a 1Ghz Cortex A8 cpu, with a 512MB DDR and 8GB to 16GB of onboard flash expandable to 32GB via the MicroSD slot. There’s GPS, Bluetooth 2.1, HDMI, and an unlocked GSM antenna to extend Wifi range. Cool! There’s an accelerometer, a light sensor, and there’s even details on the battery – a 4200mAh, 3.7V!

LG to launch Optimus 3D at Mobile World Congress?

It turns out that the phone won’t just have a 4.3-inch 800×480 pixel glasses-free 3D screen, but also a dual-lens camera for 3D recording.
Content can also be shared in 3D via HDMI or with DLNA compliant equipment.
LG is yet to confirm the other specifications, but it is expected that the phone will use NVIDIA’s Tegra 2 3D dual-core processor, so it should be as pleasing to the eye for speed as it will be for visuals.

Even if the photo turns out to be a fake, which is always possible, the fact that LG has produced a 4.3-inch screen with a 480×800 pixel resolution tells us that it will definitely appear in an Android, or as a serious long shot, Windows Phone 7, device.
Our money is on Android, and the Optimus 3D (which also seems the most logical name) could be unveiled on February 14th when LG shows off a range of new devices.
The original press release, confirming the screen, was issued on January 5th and stated as follows:
Las Vegas, 5 January, 2011 – LG Electronics (LG) announced today it will showcase a 4.3-inch glasses-free 3D display for mobile devices at the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. Providing attendees with a first look at the latest in 3D innovation, LG sets the pace for mobile 3D displays and secures its role as a forward-thinking technology leader in the mobile market.
“LG sees tremendous growth potential in the 3D mobile display market,” said Dr. Jong-seok Park, President and CEO of LG Mobile Communications Company. “With our key understanding of displays, entertainment and mobile technology, LG is looking forward to debuting this exciting new way to watch 3D movies or play games on your mobile phone.”
Featuring a WVGA touchscreen and 480×800 pixel resolution, the 4.3-inch 3D display offers the optimum screen size for watching 3D on a mobile device. Viewers can watch videos or play games without straining their eyes with the display’s immersive 3D technology that provide exceptionally bright and flicker-free images.
Making 3D glasses a thing of the past, LG’s 3D display uses an applied parallax barrier technology, which delivers a series of light-blocking slits attached to the front of the LCD panel. The slits, or barriers, ensure that the left and right eyes see different images, creating an illusion of depth and a thoroughly convincing 3D effect.
Working closely with LG Display, LG has also drastically reduced crosstalk. The new display has straighter, more upright barriers that are very precisely aligned to the LCD panel. This technological advance not only means smoother, brighter, crosstalk-free images, but also a wider viewing angle than on previous parallax displays.

Google Nexus S To Be New Released In Canada Via Mobilicity

Here is good news for folks who are living in Canada. The Google Nexus S will be available in that region in March 2011. According to Mobilicity CEO Dave Dobbin, the handset will be available on the company’s AWS band. Additionally, Bell, Telus, and Rogers will also carry the Nexus S. Too bad, there is no info on pricing at this moment. Stay tuned for more updates!

Nexus S is heading to Canada via Mobilicity. Dave Dobbin, the CEO of Mobilicity said the Android 2.3 power handset will be available on the company’s AWS band. However, he did mention several others carriers such as Bell.

Canadians are eagerly awaiting the arrival of the highly touted Google Nexus-S. The Nexus-S went on sale in the US on the 16th of December and is set to be released in the UK on the 20th of the month. The US pricing is set at $199 with a two-year T-Mobile contract or $529 unlocked at Best Buy.
Google Canada spokeswoman Wendy Rozeluk said the company is looking to bring Nexus S to more countries, including Canada, but as of Tuesday, it had no specific information on that issue.
There’s been some rumors floating around the web about BestBuy Canada selling the Nexus-S, I think some people might have misread some headlines that mentioned Best Buy US selling the Nexus-s.
So there you have it as of this article being written there is no official release date, my assumption is we will hear some sort of official announcement in late January.

Latest Samsung Gem SCH-i100 To Be New Released In The US

Gem SCH-i100 in the US market very soon. This entry level phone is powered by the Google Android 2.1 Eclair and has a 3.2-inch WQVGA touchscreen display, a Swype virtual keyboard, social networking integration through the use of Samsung Hub, a microSD memorycard slot, a 3.2-megapixel camera and an 800MHz processor. Unfortunately.

Samsung has not forgotten about the entry level phone market with the Samsung Gem SCH-i100, although if you take a look at the specifications further down this post, you might be surprised that the name itself does not tally with its innards.

First of all, we are pretty disappointed that the Samsung Gem SCH-i100 is powered by Android 2.1 Eclair instead of Froyo or Gingerbread, while other hardware specifications include a 3.2-inch WQVGA touchscreen display, a Swype virtual keyboard, social networking integration through the use of Samsung Hub, a microSD memory card slot, a 3.2-megapixel camera and an 800MHz processor to run things from within. Interestingly enough, this feature phone handset was previously spotted bearing Verizon’s logo, so we’re pretty sure this Gem is going to end up there in due time.
